Grips on Rectangles how do i change dimensions of rectangle

Is it possible to change the size of a rectangle by selecting the midpoint of a side?
i am used to Autocad and this was a much used way to change the lengte or hight of a rectangle.

There is no grip available on the midpoint of a rectangle side, however, grips are available on the endpoints/intersections of the rectangle. To use these, select the rectangle, then select the grip you wish to use to stretch.

If you absolutely need to use the midpoint, type mid and press return within the stretch command and select the midpoint of the side of the rectangle you wish to use as the basepoint of the stretch.
