How are NLM licenses controlled? by our internal server or a public one?

Interested in purchasing 10+ network licenses and wondered if users can access the license while outside of the office or if they would need to VPN. Does it run on a flexlm server and is "borrowing" permitted?

The network licenses are of proprietary design and they are not tethered to the home planet so to speak. In other words, they can be checked out and travel away from the server who is responsible for keeping track of their state of readiness and availability. The license manager is referenced by IP address so if your firewall and router have been set up to allow your satellite users to speak to it they can utilize the licenses just like they were at the home office.
