When I hatch I get "Selecting Everything Visible" then "Analyzing the selected data..." it gets stuck there.

I have been trying to hatch a drawing with solid hatch for the purpose of shading it. I am getting the message "Selecting Everything Visible" followed by "Analyzing the selection..." followed by a hard freeze of the program. Killing the process is my only way of getting out of the command. I am using "Pick Points" for boundaries and have tried setting the tolerance at 0.1 and 10.0 both with the same results 99% of the time. I have also tried associative on and off with no success. I have also tried Nested and Outer Only, still no success. Does anyone have any ideas?
